b'ENGAGE 2024 | SHARED MISSIONWhat Does This Mean?In or out of the office, purpose matters. Surprisingly, even though physical presence in the office has increased, the sense of purpose people feel in the work theyre doing has not. When someone has a strong sense of purpose, theyre truly inspired by the work theyre doing, and they give it their all. Too many are just going through the motions, which leads to higher rates of disengagement.More than just words on the wall. EveryteammembershouldbeabletonotonlyrecitetheircompanysCoreValuesbutalsohaveagreater understanding of what they really mean. Without knowledge and clarity, Core Values are no more than words on the wall (or on your video background).Accountability starts with leadership. Bringing Core Values to life involves 4 important actions: demonstrating, recognizing, hiring by, and holding people accountable. Even team members who are aware of their companys Core Values are not seeing their leaders hold people accountable to them or refuse to tolerate behaviors that dont align.People want to know where theyre going. Without a clear and motivating vision, employees may feel like theyre listening to a GPS provide them with maybe turn-by-turn directions to an unknown destination. Theyre along for the ride but not sure where theyre going and can easily be persuaded off course. A motivating vision is vital for employees to feel as though they have a stake in the game.Onboarding is off point. New employees are the least likely to have a strong sense of Shared Mission. Although this may seem acceptable, since theyvemostrecentlyjoinedthecompaniestheyworkfor, itsexactlytheopposite.Sharingeachpartofyour companysSharedMissionshouldbeoneofthefirststepsduringanemployeesonboardingprocess.Thebest companies also weave their Shared Mission into the recruitment and selection stages as well. 18'
